Composition
and Population History
Almost all of the town residents are Turkish and a great
percentage have their origins in Balkans and Thrace region, where Turkish rule was
dominant between 14th and 20th centuries. These people immigrated to the region mainly
because of the Balkan wars in 1910's and population exchange programs between Greece and
Turkey in early 20th century.
The annual population growth rate is about 10 %0, which
is about half of the country average. The following table summarizes the fluctuation of
